蘭葉春葳蕤，桂華秋皎潔。
欣欣此生意，自爾爲佳節。
誰知林棲者，聞風坐相悅。
草木有本心，何求美人折！

 

My Thoughts by Zhang Jiuling

 

In spring orchid leaf thrives to its best,

In autumn sweet osmanthus dazzles bright.

O, such vitality, without behest,

Adorns its season with its special sight.

O, who else would wit why hermits’ delight

In such savory will never abate?

O, such balmy glens do hermits excite.

Verdure hath its own beauteous trait,

Which beseeches none for its golden fate.
