《襄陵操》

 

嗚呼，洪水滔天， 下民愁悲，

上帝愈谘！ 三過吾門不入， 父子道衰。

嗟嗟，不欲煩下民！

 

Xiang-ling Elegy of the Deluge

 

Fie, the spate towers o’er the dome on high,

The stricken folk plead on their knees,

O, e’en God laments in solemn cry!

I passed my own house thrice,

Yet entered not, seized of unease,

The bond, twixt sire and son, wanes in a trice.

I shall not vex the folk below,

Nor burden their woe.
