生涯雖舊，衣食足夠，

區區自要尋生受。

一身憂，一心愁，

身心常在他人彀，

天道若能隨分守。

身，也自由；心，也自由。

 

Though Humble be My Lot

Though humble be my lot,

Food and garb — I lack nought,

Still must I taste what fate hath brought.

My frame is weary care-fraught,

And my heart is grief-drawn taut,

Both body and mind oft trapped in others’ plot,

If heaven confine me not,

Then flesh no longer care-wrought,

And soul no longer distraught.
