偶尋半開梅，閒倚一竿竹。

兒童不知春，問草何故綠。

 

An Impromptu by Yuan Mei (Qing Dynasty)

 

I do chance on a half-blown plum,

As on bamboo idly I lean.

Children, witless that spring is come,

Ask wherefore all the grass is green...
