一日今年始，一年前事空。

淒涼百年事，應與一年同。

 

New Year’s Day by Yuan Zhen

 

A new year begins from this day,

Last year’s matters seem out of sight.

The woes of one year, sans dismay,

Akin to one century’s plight.
