別修覺寺無本上人 – （唐）鄭穀

鬆上閑雲石上苔，自嫌歸去夕陽催。
山門握手無他語，隻約今冬看雪來。

 

Adieu to the Monk of Xiujue Temple by Zheng Gu

 

Above the pines, clouds roam, moss on the stones, below,

I feel urged to return by the sun’s setting glow.

At the temple gate, clasping hands, no other words,

We pledge to meet this winter again for the snow.

Inspired by Wu Xingjian’s superb translation version, I give it a try for fun as well...
