自小刺頭深草裏，

而今漸覺出蓬蒿。

時人不識淩雲木，

直待淩雲始道高。

 

The Little Pine Tree by Du Xunhe (Tang Dynasty)

 

When ‘twas little, e’en weeds dwarfed this pine tree.

Slowly from tangled brush it comes to rise —

A cloud-cleaving giant — all failed to see,

None lauds until it shoots into the skies.
