銷夏 （唐）白居易

 

何以銷煩暑，端居一院中。
眼前無長物，窗下有清風。
熱散由心靜，涼生為室空。
此時身自得，難更與人同。

 

On Dispelling Summer Heat by Bai Ju-yi

 

How shall I beat the hateful heat —

In the courtyard I take my seat,

Where nothing weighty walls me in,

Through the windows, breeze drifts to greet.

An easy heart calms sultry air,

An empty house — a cool retreat.

Thus, I find solace all my own,

None could share such feeling so sweet.
