赤壁 - 杜牧

 

折戟沉沙鐵未銷，

自將磨洗認前朝。

東風不與周郎便，

銅雀春深鎖二喬。

Halberds broken and rusty are buried in sand,

The relics cleaned account for the previous days grand.

Had east wind disfavored General Zhou a whit,

Both Qiao sisters’ eyebrows would have forever knit.

 

II 

Had east wind failed young Zhou its divine might to bring,

Th’ Qiao girls would’ve been locked in a brass-bower of spring.

 

 III

Had the east wind been against Zhou’s southland,

Qiao girls would have been snared in a knave’s hand.
