把君詩卷燈前讀，詩盡燈殘天未明。

眼痛滅燈猶闇坐，逆風吹浪打船聲。

 

Perusing Yuan’s Poetry in Boat by Bai Juyi

 

By the flickering candle, your verse I peruse,

As I end them, the candle fades, yet predawn still,

My eyes tired and sore, in darkness I sit and muse,

The boat feels the wave’s slaps as the headwind sounds shrill.
