From Mt. Caucasus a cool breeze blows down

To kiss the prisoner’s chapped lips,

Around, the granites shake and sigh in deep brown,

They try to awake Prometheus with gentle flips and nips.

The victim the alp nymphs quietly come to tend,

Like beautiful rosy clouds they descend.

With their soft and wet long hair,

They wipe the victim’s bleeding breast.

Their eyes are filled with tears of care,

Their voices like springs murmur sans rest—

Esteemed captive, awake, awake,

Life is hailing, please respond for that sake,

Though the vultures can peck your heart,

And devour your lungs,

And the shackles fetter your body part,

Your soul sings freer than the wind tongues

Your will is stronger than a rock.

Suddenly thunders roar in the north, it seems a shock.

The sun hides out, the clouds tumble,

The atmosphere turns ominously blear.

“Zeus!” the nymphs exclaim, they crumble,

And scatter in panic and disappear.

Here come Zeus and his men, they alight,

Two vultures perch on Zeus’ shoulders left and right.

能動彈的隻有嘴巴眼睛;

He comes close to Prometheus’ head,

Bending down to check his scars that still bleed,

Looking at the perfect fetters in deep red,

The blood-rusted rocks he does also heed,

On his lips appears a satisfied smile,

He asks with a mock vile,

Huh, how is it?

A calm gaze the prisoner heads up to cast,

His eye reveals his innermost determined grit,

Involuntarily Zeus takes a step back fast,

He feels before him he has no place to hide.

Though he is nailed to the rock-side,

Only can he move his mouth and eyes,

Though being helpless, cut off from the multitude,

in this mountain and wilds, alone he lies,
None of these can soothe Zeus’ tense attitude,

Staring at him, feeling uneasy and very stressed,

—what the hell power has he possessed,

Which is powerful enough to subvert

The gods’ very existence!

"How?" he asks again, though curt,

The tone becomes a bit amiable with insistence.

Atop the mountain, a bit too cold does it seem?

But the air is quite fresh here, I deem.

These two feathered friends you must abhor,

For as soon as some blood they smell,

They are immediately not submissive anymore,

I did tell them to look after you well,

But I don't know if they listened to do so?

Do you have any request, please let me know,

If I can do it, I will always promise to do...

Prometheus replies with a sober voice,

Thank you for your kindness so “true”,

Prisoners are prisoners, any request or choice?

Shackles and vultures are but your duties, I’d say

You’d better take off your hypocritical veneer, okay?

For which outdoes any torture on me.

Zeus pretends to be deaf to Prometheus' remarks,

– You are a bit depressed, ah, it seems to be,

But why bother? As soon as you turn around your arks,

The shore will be right here waiting for you,

Don’t be afraid of any sin if you repent and renew...

Don’t you wish to re-treasure

Olympus’s riches and honor in the sky?

To revel in leisure and pleasure?

Don’t you wish to rejoin the gods on high.

Zeus, here is the answer of mine,

No, I don't wish for those so-called “divine”!

For your decadence I heartily disdain,

Today imprisoned and persecuted I’m,

But in my sober brain

I’ve never viewed myself a sinner any time.

Well, then don’t you wish for your release,

And to live as free as you like in peace?

Don't you wish to re-live your good old days ---

--- feeling free to ride clouds as your sport,

To swim in oceans and to chase winds by chaise?

Alright, cut a long story short,

What do you really want by such strife?

Yes! I do love freedom more than life.

But if it demands a price tag, I vow

I’d rather die in the jail.

What?... Prometheus, we can’t allow

The world to keep any spark, though we did fail...

Fire only for the gods to use, in a sense,

To cook food and to burn incense.

How can it warm and light the heathen?

It was you who stole the fire for the lout

From the celestial palace, such a treason,

Now it should be you again to put it out.

For the vested interest pf Olympian gods,

You must do it against all odds.

It's said you can portend, by the way,

(Zeus gives a cough discreetly quiet),

When will be the gods’ doomsday,

As well as who will lead the riot.

We neither believe that’s going to occur,

Nor the gods will fall by such a stir—

Such dreams will never come to pass at any hour,

Our rule over the universe shall forever last,

We always possess the supreme power!

Mayhap there was a mad iconoclast,

In attempt to make the sun rise from the west—

If you do know such, you must pour it out of your breast,

Let us punish the traitors as soon as we can.

Prometheus, why don't you think

You belong to the gods, not mortal Man.

When rivers sink,

Rills will dry as well.

Could twigs and leaves escape hell,

When trees fall?

So, Zeus, do you really give cues

You have felt unsettled by the urgent call?

This is truly making news!

However, Prometheus has no sense of bliss,

As vengeance won’t give any joy to him —

... A chill despair and a cold fear hiss,

Both deeply grapple his heart in grim...
