I Dwell at the Head of Long River

我住長江頭,
君住長江尾。
日日思君不見君,
共飲長江水。
I dwell at the head of Long River,
Thou at its farthest tail.
Day after day, I think on thee,
Alas, to no avail,
Albeit woe is me —
We share the river’s rippling shiver.
此水幾時休,
此恨何時已。
隻願君心似我心,
定不負相思意。
Alack, when could the water vanish?
And when could the woe...?
May thy thoughts be like mine,
If so...
Our yearning shall ne’er decline,
And our love nothing can banish.
