今歲今宵盡，明年明日催。

寒隨一夜去，春逐五更來。

氣色空中改，容顏暗裏回。

風光人不覺，已著後園梅。

 

A Verse Writ on New Year’s Eve by His Majesty’s Edict

Tonight sends this old year off ere the morn,

For morrow hastens new year to be born.

Winter slips away with the fading night,

Spring marches in as dawn breaks its first light.

A subtle but vibrant shift in the sphere,

All faces glow again with soundless cheer.

O, stealthy vernal air fills here and there,

In gardens, blooming plum blossoms so fair.
