池塘春草謝家春，萬古千秋五字新。

傳語閉門陳正字，可憐無補費精神。

 

A Quatrain by Yuan Hao-wen (Jin Dynasty)

 

“The vernal grassy pool” — Hsieh Ling-yun’s Spring,

O, for aye his five words, unstrained, they sing.

Yet Shih-tao forced his lines behind the door —

In vain, naught fair, though his brain he did wring.
