A Prose by Ouyang Xiu
(Part II)
The brume in woods clears as the sun doth rise,
When clouds gather, caves in the cliffs become dim.
The change from light to dark seems on a whim
To reign the dawn and dusk in the cliffs’ eyes.
The wildflowers proffer their balmy smell,
The lush trees form leafy shades high and low.
Frost white and clean, air so crisp, high winds blow,
Rocks rise as waters recede from the dell,
Four seasons govern the mountain in turn.
At dawn oft I would fain rise hiking there
And not till dusk I would then ramble home.
Four seasons four vistas, for which all yearn.
Oh, different colors four seasons wear,
In which our joy is infinite to roam.
