Color Maps: Enhanced Velocity Maps

The examples in the first section of this tutorial used an enhanced velocity map. Enhanced velocity color maps display blood flow moving toward the transducer with reds changing to yellows with velocity increases. Blood flow moving away from the transducer is displayed with dark blues that gradually change to light blues as the velocities increase. The many colors in this map let you more easily distinguish between different mean velocities.

Normal blood flow appears either as a solid color or as a smooth progression of color up or down the color bar. Turbulent blood flow appears as a mosaic of all the colors in the color bar. The mosaic pattern indicates both the marked differences between the mean velocities and blood flow directions at each sample site.
