鵲橋仙·夜聞杜鵑 陸遊 （宋）

 

茅簷人靜，篷窗燈暗，春晚連江風雨。

林鶯巢燕總無聲，但月夜常啼杜宇。

 

催成清淚，驚殘孤夢，又揀深枝飛去。

故山猶自不堪聽，況半世飄然羈旅！

 

Hearkening Cuckoo at Night by Lu You

 

Beneath the thatched eaves, all falls hushed,

The panes, reed-framed, dimly lamp-lit,

Breeze-driven, drizzle-ridden, late spring river rolls.

No sound of orioles, nor of swallows,

Yet on moonlit nights, cuckoo’s call oft stirs the souls.

 

It hastens the tears to run down,

It shatters lonely dreams with a start.

It flits forth into the deep boughs beyond the knolls.

E’en hills of homeland cannot bear it,

Much less my moiety of life still drifts sans goals.
