(Poetry Series) The Desolate World III: The Withered Tree Longs for Spring
By Li Li
Stretching out my withered hand,
To grasp the time slipping through the window,
But time, too fragile,
Is torn into fragments,
Carried away by the wind, along with the past splendor.
A thousand years have passed, through the gap of the rings,
Still buried deep within, the egg waiting for spring’s arrival.
Hoping that in the cycle of life, a breeze will come, fresh and green.
Alas, it is shattered by the curse of a flock of cold crows,
The illusion spirals three times,
And I may avoid the decay of this life,
But enter the bloom of the next world.
Ideals are full, but reality is painfully thin.

This poem explores themes of time, longing, and the cyclical nature of life, where the passage of time can both destroy and transform. The contrast between idealism and harsh reality is expressed in the final lines.
