楊忻來自中國北京，現年22歲，1月8日剛剛抵達美國，在弗吉尼亞理工大學學習會計學。

楊忻 was murdered on January 21, 2009 at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) in Blacksburg, Virginia, United States. Her head was cut off with a kitchen knife in a campus cafe. Haiyang Zhu (朱海洋), 25, was arrested at the scene
