【多彩文學04】“The reality ‘created’, or the memory forgotten?” – Essay

The reality  ‘create d ’, or the memory forgotten?”
-random thoughts in reading “ Katherine Govier ”

People value their family pictures. The black and white ones give the family story and memories of the past. But if you turned the pages of the novel written by Katherine Govier, readers might ask deeply into their mind the questions either can we ‘create a reality’ or could the past memory be made forgotten ?

The story of “The immaculate Conception Photography Gallery” framed in Toronto ‘little Italy”, richly coloured in canvas the culture of Italian immigrant, painted in front of us vividly a Photographer who uses his “skill’ to alter the picture taken years ago. Finally in the end he ‘moved’ or change the “graphic” location of his Gallery to a nicer place in town.

A bi-cultural Chilly Novelist, Ishebal Claude said once in her interviewing with CBC Toronto , “it is terrible to forget our past,” she commented on her newly printed “the invented country” to about 300 Torontonians early 2007. Katherine , back in was asking the same question , so e voking , and deep ly questioning into people’s mind the fact whether the reality could be changed or the past memories could be forgotten ?

History is written by the winners. There are numerous cases where the history of certain countries or the past figures and personals historic get forgotten when it is written down. The Italian photographer she created in the story created new reality and made the memory to be forgotten with his photographic skill.

The meaning of the story goes quite beyond it self as we go just one step further. A journalist sometimes has to write about the stories in the past. Stories of the past happenings could be plotted in the different features; in its real significance, the s tory unveils to us the reality can be changed even the memories of ages could be changed in certain way.

Not mentioning the technology nowadays we have that makes it all that easy and nothing is not possible. If we tackle the techniques applied in modern media industries. Thus it challeng es and cal ls for the real virtue of keeping and exploring the truth or the real picture of the realities and the memories of the people and the history.
