自從騎完tahoe以後,我的人生就失去了目標。零敲碎打騎一點club ride。無意中看到我們這裏每年一度的century,是本地各個餐館讚助,據說rest stop的食物都是各個烹飪學校來舉辦,還舉行比賽,讓騎手們投票哪個食物最好。作為吃貨的我,一看到這個,馬上拍板交錢了。
106裏,4800高,心裏沒底。調出年前騎napa的數據,102裏,3300多,看來我的人生又要掀開新篇章了。每天下班後騎點cycling class,周末騎個小短途,兩周以後,我就站在了出發點了。
天蒙蒙亮就出發了,公雞還在打鳴,(我們這裏農村,好多公雞),冷得透心。
開始騎以後,我發現主辦方大概把精力都放在準備食物上了,標誌做得很差,地上一個小小的油漆,其他什麽都沒有。我連地圖都沒帶。趕緊跟著前麵的大叔使勁騎了7-8裏,大叔突然回頭說,你上來。我以為他要跟我聊天,誰知道他就騎到我後麵去了,敢情是要draft我。暈。一直在club我就是打醬油的,隻有各位帥哥大叔拉我,哪有人這樣占我便宜的,人家也不屑阿。沒辦法,隻能悶頭騎,偶爾想要擤個鼻子大叔都在後麵說,keep going。靠。還好小夥伴騎了上來,大叔就過車拆橋,去draft小夥伴了。
到了第一個rest stop,在一個大湖邊,風景優美。食物果然別具一格,蘿卜絲蘋果絲和什麽焦糖巧克力,裝在一個個小碟子裏,太高端了,我隻想吃點肉倒點水,很鬱悶。
於是接著騎。十幾個mile的rolling hill,爽得不行,正騎得風生水起,突然一看路標,發現早就騎錯了。。。小夥伴和我互相推諉責任,但是結果是一致的,要倒頭。於是再重新騎rolling hill,回到分叉口,等著下一波人一起走。過了一回兒,一隊人馬呼嘯
而來,談笑風生,竟然跟我們走的一個方向,原來沒走錯?我和小夥伴吐血跟在後麵。過了十幾分鍾,人馬紛紛停下說,走錯了,掉頭。。。我和小夥伴那時候血也吐完了,擦擦嘴角,視死如歸地說,對,掉頭。
又過了20mile。是下一個rest stop,終於看見肉了,我開始大吃特吃,要把冤枉用掉的卡路裏吃回來。這時候,我發現一個詭異的事實,因為熱了,大家都脫下了長袖外套,露出了各自的wrist band,和我們顏色不同。。。再一打聽,他們都是60 miler。。
。坑爹啊。這些看上去這麽hard core的人,都是騎60裏的,我們又走錯了。
這時候時間已經耗費了很多,小夥伴怯生生地說要不咱們也騎60裏吧。我狠狠地瞪了他一眼說,付了100裏的錢,就是要騎100裏的,否則少吃了兩個rest stop,虧死了!我一邊拿了塊肉嚼著,一邊走出去找到SAG,跟他們一番訴苦,大叔大嬸立即答應開
車帶我們去100裏的路線。
坐在車裏,看著剛才騎過,等下100裏騎的回程還要騎的路,心裏就是一陣酸苦。不過大叔說為了抓緊時間,會越過幾個坡,讓我們少騎幾裏。哇,開車經過那個大坡的時候,我心情又好了很多,嘻嘻。
在路口,和大叔大嬸道謝告別,然後再次開始征程。這次認認真真看地上的標誌,不敢再出錯了。路上碰到一個巨漂亮的亞洲妹妹,騎cevelo的騷車,長發飄揚。一路就到了下一個rest stop。準備食物的哥哥,看到我的車,大聲說,哇,你是從中國來參加我們的century的??? 我#$&&%$
此後就是爬坡,下坡,爬坡,一路無話。那些本來我最喜歡的rolling hills,到了最後就變成了揮之不去的夢魘,一個坡以後,抬頭一看,又是一個大坡,那種哀歎阿。support不夠好,水也喝完了。還好攝影師朋友一路開車跟我們拍照,變成了私人SAG,端茶倒水拍照。
最後到終點的時候,看到那個餐館標誌,領了盒飯,我就好像大腕電影裏那個三年沒吃雞的大款,兩眼淚汪汪,太高興了。
就不要嚇路車新手了,再說本身就有很嚴重器材派傾向。盡管還是有一點wobbly(first time on 23mm tires),但感覺這比豪華車有意思多了。所以不愁,不愁,哈哈!
實在沒發忍住對road bike的向往,提前消費了。今天試了一把,holy cow, 所有的對road bike的正麵評價都是真的。文學城應該有一個自行車論壇to share this type of excitement! BTW, bike fitting is definitely worthy if this service is reasonably included in the bike price.

I've already got everything, except SPD pedals for my current bike, and I never felt I liked such an endurance sport this much. At the moment, my average speed is 18 km/h, which is just the entry level for club ramblers. Every cyclist I met in the trail passed me with no mercy (although I felt sometimes my bike was flying already). :-) This is why I'd like to know how to improve my performance to move onto the next level, either through a road bike, cycling class or whatever.
1. Is cycling class the most important thing in your experience that significantly improved your biking performance?
----no, the actual riding experience is more important. climbing, sprinting during the riding are far better than riding in gym, although spinning class is indeed a good exercise during my weekdays when I cannot do long rides.
2. Does joining a cycling club help as much as cycling class?
---it's different purpose, cycling club is for group riding, you need to know your speed level and join the appropriate riding group, it's fun, but probably won't help much with your performance, especially for beginners.
3. Is road bike a must?
--- yes, if you are serious about it and want to get to the next level. otherwise you can ride any kind bike you want and just enjoy it.

Internet上有太多評論,很多都說不清。很想聽聽有實際經驗人的建議,特別是第3點。可能是更想找個人來justify我的road bike計劃吧 :-)
