歌裏講述了在人生途中，父親對女兒從小到大一路上的擔心；父親老了，即將離開人世，女兒勸慰父親：放心地走吧，女兒已經長大，不再是那五歲的小女孩子，騎著自行車，父親撫著車子；女兒已經有了愛的人，以後的路有了陪伴，不再孤單。
這首歌如泣如訴，打動了很多人的心；每每聽到，總心潮起伏，不能自抑。
我其實也想跟自己的父親說：放心吧，自己已有了伴，也過得挺好，不要再揪心不肯離去，這樣太累了。
我知道這些年來，父親始終在我身邊，並沒有走遠，用各種方式來嗬護我。
