Apollo's golden chariot draws closer,
Dawn rises from the skyline,
The peaks of the Caucasus greet the dawn light,
Prometheus has woken up on the cliff,
With the first ray of the rising sun,
Two shooting stars streak across the horizon:
— Here come the punishing messengers of Zeus,
They will never ever miss the hour any day.
--- Oh, beautiful morning, when will you be able
To become a symbol of freedom and brightness to me...
The shackles nailed him down like cold pythons,
They strangle him, numb and painful.

With a flap of wings, beside him,
Two hideous clouds pounce upon...
...Like bronze claws digging into his ribs,
He is silent, clenching his teeth.
Now they peck, now they chew,
His coagulated wound is oozing blood again.
His chest is ripped with a saw-shaped long hole,
Here exposes a flaming heart.
The vultures take a pause, as if a respite,
Though such torture-to-kill is not tiring at all,
——Plenty of time, why hurry --
He has no possibility of resistance.

敲進了一根燒紅的長釘;

Ah, such unbearable and hopeless waiting,
He really wants to shout loud:
Hurry up, do not excruciate me,
But at last, he has sought only silence,
For who could expect humanity
From those vultures and hounds?
To tease the victim is abjectly cruel to the victim,
But to teasers, it's just a game, madly exciting.
One peck, they peck at his pulsing heart,
He convulses, feeling in his chest hammered in
A burning red-hot long spike.
Once, once again, and once again,
The vultures greedily peck and devour,
They become drunkards,
Drowning in his fresh hot blood.

His blood has reddened the vultures’ beaks,
They fight for and bite his heart,
Which has become a deformed bloody mass,
Weakly pulsating, trembling with life.
The pain has burned every nerve in him,
He is gasping, cold sweat cascades,
Oh, fresh air, every breath he takes in,
They are like thousands of sharp silver needles.
The crooked vultures’ talons claw through his arm,
His clenched teeth bit through his lips,
But the sufferer is as silent as a rock,
Not a single sigh or groan is heard.

表現他君臨萬方的赫赫威靈;

The edges of the shackles shred his flesh,
The sharp edges of rocks grind his bones and tendons,
A rust-hued background is formed on the earth,
Delineating the majestic figure of the victim.
To the sky he raised his eyes,
God, you will bear witness to these atrocities,
But what has he seen? Oh, right there,
In cloudy sky, the smiling figure of Zeus appears.
Oh, let him laugh, if he cannot find better ways
To take his hatred out on me, if he can no longer
Show off his mightiness that reigns all corners;

向囚徒證明勝利者的光榮;
宙斯,我對你有些憐憫;

If he must use the vultures’ talons,
To prove to the captive the glory of the victor;
“You smile then, Zeus,
Though You hold the great god of thunder,
I have some pity on you;
Come to peck, Zeus-sent vultures punish me,
Let you ravage this pure heart,
The flesh and blood of the victim is ready every day,
So, eat till you are full, to nourish your feathers,
And to make them look smoother.”
Prometheus smiles faintly,
Surprisingly, Zeus appears to be embarrassed.
Do not hasten to ask me questions, Prometheus,
Accept it or not, you’d better hurry to decide.

No, I cannot, replies Prometheus,
Calmly looking directly into Zeus' eyes.
Fire should belong to human beings,
How can only your heaven possess it forever?
Even if I didn’t steal the fire,
People can still find light themselves.
When a man has his house, how can he dig a cave to live?
How can a bird like a cage after entering the woods?
Where there is fire, there will be tinder,
Which no hurricane can blow out,
Which no flood can swallow.
Fire will lead man to liberation and salvation,
I’d advise you’d not hassle yourself in vain,
Oh, whatever or however,
No way could you douse the fire in the world.

How can the rule of the gods last for good?
Didn’t you hear the grievances all over the world?
The blood and tears of the beings will drown the gods,
The Palace of Olympus will be reduced to dust!”
Why ask who will champion the future uprisings?
Those who seek justice will be your foes!
You reap what you sow,
It would be your closest kins who killed you.
Shut the hell up! Stop your vicious curses,
Zeus's eyes glow with his livid face,
He raises his lightning rod and strikes the air,
Thunders bolt, mountains shake, and the land quakes.

I warn you, I will not forgive easily,
Don't put too much trust in my generosity!
Who would link you with kindness?
That simply smears Zeus's fame.
Don't talk like that anymore,
One word, do you agree, or not?
No, it's not my will that counts,
I cannot change the course.
You're so sure we are going to fail,
Hmph, just wait and see,
The gods will last forever.
Oh, why repeat old myths,
Ask yourself if you can regard it as real.

Who said I cannot defeat the lowly traitors?
Whoever dares to rebel, I will wipe them out!
I know you are most valiant in this,
But if you walk at night a lot
You will run into wronged innocent souls.
You can only comfort yourself with curses,
This is not a curse, but a proof of the future.
Whatever the future will be like,
It has nothing to do with you,
You’d better try to save yourself.
You can grind me up if you please,
But it cannot save your fate at all.
Is your mind made of granite?
No, it's the truth that keeps it unyielding.

So, you are determined to be my foe to the end.
I am honored to be viewed as your foe.
Go to hell! Zeus roars angrily,
The lightning rod hits Prometheus,
At once, a loud rumble rises,
Like the earth cracking,
Like the sky shattering,
Half of the alp falls into the deep dale,
Sand and rocks fly in the thunder,
Lightning flashes like evil snakes in the black clouds,
As if hell looming up, the world vanishing.
Zeus wields the shuttle in his hand,
With heinous grin, he soars into the clouds,
Who says I cannot punish you? Wait!
I will not let you die now,
But I will skin you alive,
I will rupture your tendons!

To the valor tied in fetters,
For the prisoners lost their resistance,
To all unfortunate captives,
Your formidable prowess is truly incomparable.
The silent speech of the victims,
Or the spicy taste makes them dizzy.
They are enraged, stretching out all four claws...
That maimed heart is immediately torn in half.
Prometheus passed out,
He seems suddenly sinking into the dark abyss,
A branding iron burns like hell in his chest,
Grilling, sizzling, his breath stopped.

From the Caucasus Mountains,
A cool breeze blows down,
Kissing the prisoner’s cracked lips,
The granites around tremble and sigh,
They attempt to shake Prometheus awake.
The mountain nymphs quietly descend,
Each like a beautiful rosy cloud,
With their soft and wet long hair,
They wipe the victim’s bleeding chest.
Their eyes are filled with tears,
Their voices like murmuring mountain springs—
Wake up, wake up, esteemed prisoner,
Life is hailing, you must respond.

Though the vultures can peck your heart,
And devour your lungs,
And the shackles fetter your body,
Your soul is freer than the wind,
Your will is stronger than a rock.
Suddenly thunders roar in the north,
The sun hides out, the clouds tumble,
The atmosphere turns awful,
The nymphs exclaimed, Zeus!
Scattering in panic and disappeared.
Here comes Zeus, with his entourages,
On his shoulders perch the pair of vultures,
He lands near the head of Prometheus,
Bending down to look at the prisoner's scars.

能動彈的隻有嘴巴眼睛;

Looking at the perfect fetters,
Looking at the blood-rusted rocks,
A satisfied smile on his lips,
He asks mockingly,
How is it, huh?
The prisoner looks at him with a calm glance,
His eye so sharp and determined,
Zeus takes a step back involuntarily,
He feels he had no place to hide before him.
Although he is nailed to the rock,
Only his mouth and eyes can move,
Although he lies in this mountain,
Far away, barren, helpless and alone.

None of these can comfort Zeus at all,
Staring at him, feeling uneasy and agitated,
—what the hell power does he possess,
Which is powerful enough to threaten
The very existence of heavens!
How? he asks again.
The tone becomes a bit soft and amiable,
Is it too cold on the mountaintop?
Anyway, the air is quite fresh here.
You must hate these two feather friends, right?
Alas, as soon as they smell some blood,
They immediately become deaf to my words.
I did tell them to take care of you properly,
But I don't know if they listened to me or not?

Do you have any request, please let me know,
If I can do it, I will always promise...
Prometheus replied soberly:
Thank you for your kindness.
Any request: Prisoners are prisoners.
Shackles and vultures are nothing but duty.
I just hope you take off your hypocrisy, okay?
For that outdoes any torture to me.’
Zeus pretends he did not clearly hear his words,
Ah? – you are a bit depressed. But why bother?
As soon as you turn your boat back,
The shore will be right there for you.
Do not be afraid of any big sins, if you repent...

Don’t you wish to go back to Olympus
To relish the riches and honor in heaven?
Don’t you wish to rejoin the gods
To revel in leisure and pleasure?
I can answer you, Zeus,
No, I don't wish at all,
For I heartily disdain your decadence.
Today I am imprisoned and persecuted,
But I don't consider myself a sinner.
Well, then don’t you wish for
Acquittal of punishment and imprisonment?
Don't you wish to relive your good old days ---
--- feeling free to ride clouds, to soar in the skies,
To swim in oceans, and to chase winds as you like?

Alright, long story short, what do you want?
Yes! I love freedom more than life.
But if it demands a price,
I’d rather accept eternal imprisonment.
What?... Prometheus, we don't allow half a spark
To be left in the mortal world,
Fire only for gods in celestial world,
To burn incense and cook food,
How can it warm and light the untouchables?
It was none other than you
Who stole the fire from celestial palace,
Now it should be you to put it out.
For the best interest of the Olympians,
You must shoulder this grave responsibility.

By the by, your power of prophecy,
(Zeus coughs solemnly),
It is said that you have foreknowledge
Of the doomsday of heavens,
As well as who will be the leader of the riot.
We don't believe it's going to happen,
To overthrow the gods—
Such dreams will never come true,
We shall rule the universe for eons,
Always possess the supreme power.
But perhaps there are such mad persons,
In attempt to make the sun rise from the west—
If you do know something, you must pour it all out,
Let us punish the traitors as soon as possible.

Why don't you think, Prometheus?
You belong to the gods, not mortals!
When the river is drained out,
The pond will die as well,
How can twigs and leaves survive when the tree falls?
So, does it mean, Zeus,
You have already felt unsteady?
This is truly news!
However, he is not happy,
Not even feel any joy of vengeance—
... A chill despair, a cold fear,
Deeply grapple his chest...

The purple dusk descends behind the alps,
The dusky clouds are darkening,
The maimed mountain still stands,
Its dark silhouette against the night sky.
Prometheus is waking up slowly,
With buzzing in his head,
The gravels have buried half of his body,
The blood has concealed his eyes.
A warm fluid flows down from his head,
A strong smell of blood attacks his nostrils,
He sticks out his swollen and numb tongue,
Licking his own blood to moisten his lips.

He is forcing open his glued eyelids,
A few stars twinkle into his sight,
The crescent hangs faintly in the sky,
The night wind brings the fragrance of fruit trees.
O dear night, how peaceful you are,
O vast land, how deeply you repose.
Across the magnificent space,
I see fields, flowers, and forests,
Rivers and lakes glisten like sparkling silver,
Mother Earth, you seem to wear a bonny brocade.
Every day, from ancient times to the present,
You nourish and nurture billions of living beings.

How many people toil and plough,
O, vast land, you glow with youth vigor every day.
But why? your blood and tears, every year,
Are just offering sacrifices to the gods!
I drink the water that flows on you,
The clear water so bitter and sour,
A heavy sigh bursts from your breast,
You look so haggard,
So do your kids and grandkids.
O, vast land, when will you resurrect,
To understand the fate of being suppressed,
O, Almighty Eternal Mother of Mankind,
In my chest it is surging your love,

I know that once you start waking and churning,
Mighty Olympus will avalanche —
From afar, on the slumbering vast land,
There rises a ray of light in the darkness,
Fire, thought Prometheus with a smile,
Pain, hunger, and thirst are all forgotten instantly.
One spark turns into three sparks, seven, countless,
They like flocks of fireflies descend on the wild fields,
But they are so red and hot,
Outshining the stars and the moon.
So much... so fast, which I cannot even believe,
They come from my little spark,
Half a spark has ignited billions of places,
Light, how strong your life is,
‘Fire, fire up, though in captivity.

I wish you—
Burning in the fire of righteous birth,
Let them read from you the lesson of truth,
Passing the psalms written in blood on...
...from generation to generation,
A relentless witness to the historical tragedy.
Burning on the torch of the righteous warriors,
To guide them to soldier on and battle gallantly,
Let the fire spread everywhere,
Victory to victory until the last battle,
Fire, fire up to burn in the long night,
Piercing through this dark and deathly stillness,
To herald the bright dawn to the people,
And when the dawn of truth finally comes,
Man will rejoice in the morning light of freedom,

O Fire, burning in every stove,
Keeps cold and hunger away
From people forever,
Let all children clap their hands
Dancing in front of the fire,
Let the elderlies laugh and talk
Eagerly around the fire.
Gazing at the lights on the vast land,
He contemplates the bright future,
Like traveling in the vast space,
He feels invigorated and uplifted.
How many people are writing
Under the lamp tonight,
To record people’s suffering and awakening,
And how many are dancing, swords in hands,
In front of the lamp,
How many jumping hearts are reddened by the flames!

你們是渺小的,但是又偉大;
你們是樸拙的,但是又聰明;

O, Man! I like calling your noble name loud ---
--- Sons and daughters of the vast land,
As a brother, I affectionately call:
O people, how much I love you!
You are small, but great;
You are simple, yet wise;
You are kind, but when life turns unbearable,
You will fight! C’mon, rise up!
Toss away those “books with holy words,
Smashed all the idols and incense lamps,
Trample them under your feet,
To Olympus
You claim back the fate of a free man!

Can you still bear on?
---these dark and shameful ages must End!
Do not fear Athena's armor!
Do not believe in Apollo's mighty spirit!
Do not listen to the threats of Zeus!
None of them will survive.
O, Man, the gods shall perish,
But the master of the vast land,
You will live with pride forever,
One day when Olympus collapses
In your sky-soaring rage,
The shackles will disappear at once,
Like ice in the sun.

At that moment, man, I will rise with joy,
With the scars of my suffering, I will prove to you,
My brotherly affection:
I am with you for that ---
--- to celebrate the perish of Olympus...
In the tide of burning passion,
Prometheus is gazing to the dawn,
All night long,
He is tossing and turning on rough rocks.
