我從新聞裏看到空降師的傘兵們登上飛機，看到Youtube上應運而生的、對霍爾莫茲海峽的風光介紹。雖然從白袍和旗幟看，猜是在阿曼的這一側拍攝的，但嶙峋聳立、幾乎沒有土壤也就寸草不生的岩石山岡，相信在另一側的伊朗也一樣。幾乎是嚇到了，被凶險的地貌。
They left the peaceful river，
The cricket field, the quad,
The shaven lawns of Oxford
To seek a bloody sod。
我但願那些空降部隊不要被投下去，盡管女詩人說，

哈佛畢業的 Alan Seeger在巴黎參的軍，他一直在寫詩，1916年初寫了他最著名的《我和死亡有一個約會》：
I have a rendezvous with death
at some disputed barricade
when spring comes round with rustling shade
and apple blossoms fill the air --
1916年七月四日他赴了死亡之約，28歲，蘋果還青澀時。
參軍前住在拉丁區的Seeger是那個文學圈子中人。他生前就已經有詩名， T.S. Eliot曾經寫過文章評論他的詩。 他倆在哈佛同學。Seeger的死亡之約詩1917年在他死後發表，1922年艾略特發表《荒原》。
讀死亡之約，就會懂得艾略特“最殘忍的四月”。
Seeger在詩裏寫，死亡要拉著他的手進入dark land, 合上他的眼, 停息他的呼吸。
On some scarred slope of battered hill,

《荒原》的第一段裏展現dead land，丁香。 Lilacs out of the dead land。
