If LA is a mecca for J, San Diego is a forgotten city. But it was made it up this time. We stopped by Giesel library in UCSD, for a picture of an iconic building designed by William Pereira, an American architect who also designed Transamerica Pyramid in San Francisco. Our destination was of course beaches, for which San Diego is renown for. And it did not let us down. A stroll on Tory Pine beach and another more than one hour time on La Jolla beach relived our old memories. What appealed to J in particular were the seals and sea lions at La Jolla. Contrasted with the quiet seals lying flat on the sand at one side of beach were the noisy sea lions on the other, barking on the rocks fighting each other, as the dusk drew near. J took pictures and videos of them, replaying and sharing the moments with us at home.
Thanks for your visit and comment. I guess these coves, rocks and sea can weather decades of erosion without visible changes. One noticeable change however is that the seals and sea lions look like permanent residents. Right, these are brown pelicans. Basically Southern CA has better and more easily accessible beaches than Northern CA, and it is possible they are prettier here, as they have more choices in mating and improving the genes:))
UCSD's campus is old, however good the location is. Geisel Library was built in 1970. Though renovated in 1990s, it still looks weathered. Interestingly, the iconic Red Mansion at 2010 Shanghai Expo looks very much like this building. Now I know that it is designed by a very famous designer, I am no longer surprised at the similarity. Dr. Seuss's books and related souvenirs can be found at the campus bookstore, and the sculpture shown above is located very close to Geisel Library (on the higher ground). Hope one day you can take Tim to revisit the city! Have a nice weekend, my friend!
Love the pictures and it's good to see the seals and cove are still there. The
birds look like pelicans, only prettier than those in the bay here. Lots of
memories from my days living and working near Westfield UTC but I never visited
the U. Next time, I have to see Dr. Seuss w/ The Cat in The Hat. Thanks for
sharing.
