“我 父親（快七十了）昨天特意騎車去都江堰看了看地震災區的情況。根據成都到都江堰的一路上看到的（他是走老成灌路），一點兒不像剛經過地震，看到的房子從外 表看到沒受損。但是當看到都江堰聚源中學的時候，他非常震驚。中學附近看起來很老很破的民房都沒有倒，唯獨這間學校幾年前修的樓倒，埋了上千人。真是讓人 痛心啊！這不能不讓你聯想，如果這些修得稍微結實一點兒，這可怕的地震就不會帶走這麽多中學生。

I am very proud of our army and Premier. They are the loveliest person in the world. I am also thinking that we should learn from this in the future.
I know that when Japanese has an earth quack, they will live together in the schools, because schools are the best buildings in their communities. We could do better and must do better in the future.

Thank you for the information! There is no proof for any corruption yet. In fact it is not the time to talk about this yet. But people should keep their minds open for any comment about this rescue, this event. That's they only way to make sure that we would do it better in future.
I don't like the way to blame others just because they see things differently.
Everybody see things in his/her own way, putting everybody's view together, we could have a better picture.

I respect you for what you have done to help the people. But what you have done cannot prove that the Chinese government is doing in the best way. I have no doubt that Premier Wen and others were putting their best effort to rescue people. I am in fact really touched by the Premier and what the soldiers. But there is one thing I don't believe. There had not been too much external help to the most seriously damaged places for about two days (Sorry not really accuratedly). Are you absolutely sure that's the best thing we could do?

Look at the photos, in the town of YinXiu, there are still buidings standing.
In my oppinion, if there were 20% buildings standing, most of them should have been schools. Schools should have been the last buildings to fall down.
The public facilities like schools, theaters, big shopping centers, churches should always follow a higher construction standard.
Schools gather mass of people. Who are those people? They are kids ! They are most vulnerable! They are most precious !
I know it is not the time to talk about these now. But we have to talk about these after the rescue settle down.
Put your feet in the shoes of those people who lost their kids, parents, wifes, fathers, brothers, sisters, would you still get angry in this way? Sure, it's not the time to find out who should take what responsibilities. But it is also not the time to shout out how successful this has been. Look at the numbers! Finally over 50,000 people could die! If the heavy equipments had been in the most serious areas earlier, I am sure the death toll would be much smaller.
I am not saying the government has not put their best effort. But there was better ways to handle this and to organize the team. After two to three days passed, the government was gathering 100 thousand army for this. If this could have been done at the right beginning, we would have a much smaller death toll.
The people in the WenChun and BeiChun would never be happy with this kind of resuce. Too late ! Too helpless ! Those ar e the most important places we should have reached. When did the rescue team reach there ?

Quality of school building? Not visible from looking at the collapsed buildings. They were just not designed/constructed with any seismic considerations.
Being a professional structural engineer in California, I know all CA schools are designed to protect the life of kids during earthquake. The hospitals are designed to be operational after the earthquake.
People should really do is to have a new law passed to inspect all school buildings and retrofit them, not just for earthquake, but also fire, wind and etc. It has to be reinforce all the way down to the most remote area.
