You can chose few books to read then expand your list. I highly recommend Dr Brazelton's book as general reading. He is god father of development and behavior Pediatrics. His older books may contain some out dated recommendations. Over all he provides general picture of child development and Parenting.
Dr Phil's book" Family first" (yes The Dr. Phil) contains very important aspect of parenting: Your family legacy. How it affects you as a parent. How your children's temperament and your temperament play a rule in your family dynamic.
