　　美國之音報導，創立於1967年的「雙橡村」環境清幽，吸引許多向往烏托邦的人成為村民。

　　村民像住宿舍一樣，每10到20人住同一屋簷下。每人每周至少勞動42 小時，村內就會供應生活一切所需，不但樣樣免費，有健保，每個月還有75美元（約台幣2500元）零用錢。

　　7年前遷來的拉斯．麥吉說，這兒不是天堂，但他不後悔。他說，這裏生活一切從簡，不太有旅遊或藝文娛樂，但精神上很富足。

　　村民自己種菜、養雞養牛，幾乎所有食物都在村內生產。在村裏住了17年的華勒莉說，村民耕種約一公頃的有機菜園，夏季吃自己種的菜，多餘的就曬幹製成罐頭或凍起來，因此冬季也有自產食物可吃。

　　村民考塔說，村民可選擇想做的任務，生活中能自行動手解決的都親力親為，修車、蓋房子、教育子女都自己來。

　　雙橡村也做生意，製造吊床和豆腐都有聲有色，是雙橡村得以撐到現在的另一原因。村民用這兩項生意的收入買保險和車，村內的17輛汽車和其他物品一樣，都是公用。

　　共享減少影響生態。考塔說，村內用電比一般居住小區少66%，汽油消耗少75%，固體廢棄物少88%。

　　雖然雙橡村的生活本質如同共產社會，但住了25年的達科塔說，退出村子的人後來大多成了企業家，有人經營平價商店、開豆腐店，有些甚至成為股票經紀人，「這個共享社會居然成了未來資本家的訓練所」，十分諷刺。
