【簡介】公元1565年夏季，穆斯林和基督徒在地中海中部的荒涼小島馬耳他進行了一場曠世大決戰。擴張成性的穆斯林奧斯曼帝國根據其征服歐洲和整個世界的戰略部署，派遣六萬大軍和數百艘戰艦，圍攻地屬西班牙哈斯伯格王朝的馬耳他島。這個被軍事專家一致認為無法防守的孤島上有六千守軍，包括由狂熱的天主教信徒所組成的醫護騎士團及其協防的歐洲雇傭軍和當地居民。戰鬥從五月下旬打響，到九月初結束，過程極其慘烈。本文將敘述這一戰役的起因、過程和後果。
