Su Shi 【Tune Name: Shui Long Yin 】
In Rhymes of Zhang Zhifu’s Catkins
Resemble the flower, also non-flower,
Yet no people grieve their being let fall.
They flung home away and drew roadside near,
What came up to my mind was,
They were pitiless, but had thought.
Their tender hearts shattered, coiling round and round, ,
Soundly sleepy were the charming eyes,
And desired to open, but eyelids drooped .
In a dream, she flied along with wind ten thousand miles,
To a place where she was seeking her beau,
But was waken up by a flying oriole.
I abhor not all this flower to disappear,
But regret they hardly could stud,
The west garden like fallen petals.
When rain ceased and morning comes,
Tracing where they have been,
I see them like shreded duckweed on a pond.
The spring scene, being made of three,
Of two is the dust on ground,
Of one is the flowing water
To look at them closer,
They are not poplar catkins,
But drops of tear of the parting.
