You could take a bus to Puerto Natales from Punta Arenas airport directly. The reason we wanted to stay a night at Punta Arenas was because we were hoping to go see the penguins in Isla Magdalena. But when we got there, we found out the afternoon penguin tour often got cancelled due to the weather (wind, and it was pretty windy that day). The 6:15 AM tour uses a bigger boat which is more reliable, but unfortunately we had our bus to Puerto Natales the next morning, so we couldn't go. Bummer.
1. The cabin we stayed in Punta Arenas is huge! It can sleep 6, and it has an old style stove that we used to heat the place.
2. An old lady selling strawberry on the street. I am not sure why but I couldn't find strawberry in the grocery store, and their fruit in general looked bad. Private sellers' fruits and vegetables looked much better.
