最近一期The Diary of A CEO,主持人Steven采訪了兩位腦健康專家,Dr. Daniel Amen and Dr. Terry Sejinowski。很有意思。Here is my takeaway:
1. An MIT study found a 47% collapse in brain activity when people wrote essays using ChapGPT compared to writing unassisted.
2. Think of it as "use it or lose it". If you don't engage your brain, your brain is going to be weaker. People who don't engage in life long learning have a higher risk of Dementia.
3. You don't use it to do your work, you interact with it to get better work.
4. Brain matures through struggling. AI provides convenience and diminishes struggle.
5. We have the sickest young generation in the world history because we unleashed video games, cellphones and social media without any neuroscience study. And, AI is way more dangerous. Note the social and emotional risks for young developing brains.
6. 58% of teenage girls have been persistenly sad. 30% have seriously considered attempting suicide. 13% have attempted suicide.
7. Best practices with AI: use it to amplify not replace thinking. Alternate between AI-assisted and brain only tasks. Engage in deep learning, problem solving, and memorization so you can ask AI to test you. Ask AI to give you negative feedback. Ask AI to critize your work pretending to be a top consultant at Boston Consulting.
8. Learn with intervals/spacing/rehearsals to solidify memories.
9. How to avoid procrastination or overcome mental block - work on a small part a day, sleep on it, work again. Spacing. Having breaks. Let brain work on it subconsciously.
10. If you don't believe in God of any version you have 3 times the risk of depression. Purposeful people live longer and happier.
11. Three advices for brain health: exercise everyday, start every day with positivity and hope (today is going to be a great day, be optimistic and grateful), Omega 3 fatty acids supplement.
12. The best drug you can take for your brain and your entire body is exercise.
13. Practice diaphragmatic breathing for heart health and mental health.
14. Stop taking artificial sweetener.
15. ADHD could be caused by many things - genetics, head injury, chronic stress, processed food, screens... Don't be afraid of medication when necessary.
16. Negativity is bad for your brain.
17. Women by and large have double the risk of depression.
18. Saunas are good for brain health.
19. Sleep
20. Understand the trade off of convenience and productivity.
Good luck, everyone!
