I recommend you read the book " To be a Jew today" by Noah Feldman. There are so many myths about being Jewish, about them as the chosen ones.
Why would Jews take the job of loaning money to the non-Jews in the Middle Ages? Because they were not allowed to take any other jobs outside their own community besides that. And they could only loan money to gentiles because Jewish law forbids Jews from loaning money and charging interests to other Jews.
I myself have converted and I know so much more than you do about Judaism. I love being Jewish and there's so much that the outside world would not get it right about Judaism, about Jewish people and Israel. So please don't make those assumptions and generalizations lest your statement falls into antisemitism.
Nice summary. Wonder if they had any sizable community in an East-Asian society.
