This spring, southern CA is abuzz with the talks of the wildflower super bloom. Enough has been posted and written in my blog, from the first hike of 2017 when the grass started shooting out of the ground, to March when the mountains were blanketed in green and vast stretch of orange poppies, peppered with yellow and purple wildflowers, and to April when poppies retreated and mustard flowers erupted into yellow color, carpeting the rolling hills with the unprecedented splendor.
Yet I seem never tired of writing this again about how as a perennial hiker, we are so fortunate to witness the beauty of nature as we gaze across the mountain, be it barren, lush or capped in snow, be it in summer or in spring.
However superb the bloom season is, it will come to an end, just like any good time or thing in the world. Here spring passes in a blaze. Before long, the summer heat will hit us, and the mountains will return to its brown color. While we may lament over it, we know that if we had not had gone through the prolonged drought and scarcity, we would not have been so appreciative of the abundant burst. Not to mention that after the spring peak comes the blossom time of cactus flowers, whose beauty is just as amazing and unique. The nature never fails to display its wonder to people who have an eye and a heart to discover it.
Anybody in this world can fail you, but not the nature.
An Opuntia plant is its own ecosystem with producers and consumers.

回複 '7grizzly' 的評論 : Hi, my friend,it's always nice to see you around. Yes, I like the pictures too. The cactus is so resilient that it is very commonly seen here, with the fruits later in the season. I wish I knew how to eat them, as the tuna (Spanish Word for fruits) is used for type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, obesity, etc. I may have watched Lion King many years ago with my daughter, but totally forgot there was such a scene :-)) Thanks for your visit.

回複 '夕陽影裏一歸舟' 的評論 : 歸舟妹妹好!You are right that beauty is in the eye of beholder. I never tried the fruit, although I know it is good for diabetic persons. I am scared of its thorny skins. Thanks for your visit. Looking forward to your English essays.

Cactus looks great in your picture. It must be good to eat ;-)
It also reminds me of a hyena in the movie Lion King falling into prickly shrubs ...
