I am currently working in New York City, and I am 4 months pregnant. I have announced the news of my pregnancy about 2 weeks ago to my manager and some of the colleagues.
I think before I go into my story, I need to explain more about my company’s background. My company is currently a small to mid size company that have between 150-200 employees, however, we are owned by a relatively large company. Our CIO also owns another consulting company that sends consultants over to our company occasionally whenever we need the resources. I guess our CIO is getting greedier; he has the top management from his consultant company taking over all the top management positions from our company at the last quarter of 2005. In the beginning of this year, our IT group as a whole has screwed up a project really badly and the large company who owns us is extremely unsatisfied with our CIO.
First of all, I am not involved in that project because my primary responsibility is to maintain the front end interface of clients’ brandings. Second of all, since the restructure of last quarter, my direct manager has told me and he no longer manages me and my new manager is this lady from the consulting company. However, she has never e-mail nor called me even once. Just last week, (one week after my pregnancy announcement) my CIO has send out 8 warning letters to the employees, and I am one of them. They accurse me of not being proactive and didn’t report to my manager when I have down time, although I have maintained my primary responsibilities fine. Also, my manager has never changed. This is completely wrong, I told my manager all the time that I don’t have anything to do, but since he didn’t think he was my manager, he didn’t think it is necessary for him to assign me anything. He also asked my CIO several times why the lady from the consulting company hasn’t contact me yet, my CIO told him to tell me to wait. But of course my CIO completely denies this right now. However, just 2 months ago, the CIO has send out an org chart (the newly structured) to everybody, and my name is under the new manager, but not my current manager. My manager also received a warning letter and it seems like he is on the edge of being terminated. Again, my manager didn’t do anything wrong either, but the CIO and his consulting company need to find someone to blame their faults on.
I know that I am not 100% protected just because I am pregnant. However, the warning letters have send out just 1 week after I announced that I was pregnant and then what they have accursed me is completely wrong. Is there anything I should do now, such as hire an attorney and do I even have a case if I get terminated as well? I know this is a looooooooooooooong message and thank you so much for your time and patient to finish this far. But I really need ur help and suggestion, thanks a bunch!
