路透社引述馬薩諸塞州消防局發言人沃克（Jake Wark）14日（週一）報道，位於麻薩諸塞州瀑河城（Fall River）的加布裏埃爾之家輔助生活中心（Gabriel House Assisted Living Facility）約有70人居住。火災於13日（週日）晚上9時30分左右發生。
沃克表示，事後約有50名消防員前往該處理火災，養老院地處波士頓以南約96公裏。

據報道，當地政府為倖存居民開放了一個臨時居留設施。
沃克又指，消防員救出養老院內的許多住客。該中心旨在協助老年人在工作人員的幫助下單獨生活。幾名被救出的住客當場被宣布死亡，另有多人被送往醫院，其中一人情況危殆。
據《波士頓環球報》報道，福爾河消防局局長Jeffrey Bacon14日向媒體表示，消防員到達時，有些人正站在窗邊等候救援。
Bacon告訴記者，火災原因正在調查中，他說：“這對涉事家庭和整個社區而言是一場難以言喻的悲劇。”
沃克指，救援行動中有五名消防員受傷，但沒有生命危險。
