在委內瑞拉，整容十分便宜，比如在正規診所做一次隆胸的費用約2100美元，這比美國的價格便宜了差不多兩倍。這也是許多女性“瘋狂”整容的一個原因。

裏瓦羅稱，自己根本數不清每天有多少選美比賽在舉行，“幾乎每天打開電視，都看到選美的節目。”不過，裏瓦羅表示，委內瑞拉之所以選美狂熱，最主要的原因是，鑒於經濟發展和社會地位的阻礙，女性並無更多方式找到好的工作。

裏瓦羅稱：“在委內瑞拉，女性地位其實並不高，男性掌握著社會的主導權，很多女性沒有工作，承擔著‘相夫教子’的傳統主婦職責。選美讓女性看到了賺錢和提升地位的新的可能性，平凡人也可以一夜成名。”
