趁還不晚改變自己吧！

Following on from Gandhi’s message about being the change you want the world to be, when does one begin?!

繼甘地說出改變自己讓世界成為你想的那樣之後，什麽時候有人改變過？

We can learn from someone who never began, almost a thousand years ago.

我們可以從一個約一千年以前的某個從未開始改變的人學到些東西。

These words are inscribed on the tomb of an Anglican Bishop in Westminster Abby (1100 A.D.):-

以下這些話是寫在公元1100年在威斯敏斯特教堂的英國聖公會主教的墓上：

When I was young and free and my imagination had no limits, I dreamed of changing the world. As I grew older and wiser, I discovered the world would not change, so I shortened my sights somewhat and decided to change only my country.

當我年輕又自由的時候，我的想象力無拘無束，夢想著改變世界。隨著我長大點懂事了，我發現世界並沒有改變，所以我稍微縮短了我的目光，決定隻改變我的國家。

But it, too, seemed immovable.

但是這個好像也顯得無法改變。

As I grew into my twilight years, in one last desperate attempt, I settled for changing only my family, those closest to me, but alas, they would have none of it.

當我進入了暮年的時候，我決定孤注一擲地去改變我的家人，這些我最親近的人。但是哎，他們一個都沒有變。

And now, as I lie on my deathbed, I suddenly realize: If I had only changed myself first, then by example I would have changed my family.

現在，我躺在臨終的床上，突然明白了：如果我僅僅從改變自己做起，然後通過榜樣我就可以改變我的家人。

From their inspiration and encouragement, I would then have been able to better my country, and who knows, I may have even changed the world.

So begin today to change yourself – the world will then inevitably follow.

所以從今天開始，改變自己吧——世界就會必然跟著改變。
