40多年前的歌最近被提起，竟然是用來形容中美貿易糾紛的。現在很多美國人用＇加州旅館＇代指中國＂肉包子打狗有去無回＂的投資環境，不知道這首歌的中國人被揶揄了可能還跟著傻笑，真挺佩服他們罵人不吐髒字的本事的。比起新聞聯播外交部那種，擼起袖子口中＇惡棍攪shi棍＇橫飛的場景，高下立現。其實中國老百姓利用幽默感罵人不吐髒字的本事也不小，諷刺奚落了你還能讓你有苦說不出，語帶雙關點到為止，既達到目的還維持住幽雅形象，這些原都是中國人擅長的呀，不知道現在的官方對外形象為何成為這樣。
《加州旅館》整個歌詞完整地講述了一個故事——你開著車迷茫行使在公路上，無意中被吸引來到了加州旅館，經曆了紙醉金迷，看到了各式各樣人們，當你準備離開的時候，卻發現自己已經無法脫身了。利益至上，人無坦誠，腐敗肮髒的社會，想要逃離時卻驚愕發現已被囚禁無處可逃的那種痛苦和絕望。
這個充滿毒品，亂性，金錢荼毒的環境，本是詞作者精確描述70年代美國的，現在被用在中國上，並且極為貼切。美國的投資者、老板們，過去20年紛紛往中國這塊＂紙醉金迷＂的大地上跑，帶著資金、技術、產業鏈。。。等發現這裏的環境越來越凶險想要撤資的時候，才驚愕發現已被囚禁，不讓你離開。他們現在所麵對的，就是歌詞中的最後這兩句話：

10月份中國宣布對外開放金融業之前，9月曾經宣布取消境外機構投資者對中國股票、債券的投資限製，但這則9月的消息並未在華爾街引起中國期待的反響。《華爾街日報》9月12日刊登了一篇文章解釋說，中國市場不再是海外投資者的“夢想之地”（Field of Dreams），而是能進不能出的《加州旅館》（Hotel California）。顯然華爾街的人已經看出北京對外開放金融業的目的，是想從外國投資者那裏圈錢，而被中國圈進去的錢能否幸運地安全撤出，會不會困在能進不能出的“加州旅館”裏，是個大大的擔憂。
割外國人的韭菜，補充迅速下滑的外匯儲備，計劃很完美。可既然已經讓人看出來了，對外開放金融業這招，也就不好使了。
