當你老了，頭白了，睡意昏沉，
爐火旁打盹，請取下這部詩歌，
慢慢讀，回想你過去眼神的柔和，
回想它們昔日濃重的陰影。
多少人愛你青春歡暢的時辰，
愛慕你的美麗，假意或真心，
隻有一個人愛你那朝聖者的靈魂，
愛你衰老了的臉上痛苦的皺紋；
垂下頭來，在紅光閃耀的爐子旁，
淒然地輕輕訴說那愛情的消逝，

And slowly read, and dream of the soft look
Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;
How many loved your moments of glad grace,

葉芝 William Buter Yeats （1865-1939），愛爾蘭詩人，早年曾參加愛爾蘭獨立運動，後來脫離政治運動，專心致力於文學寫作。
葉芝的詩風受布萊克影響較深，後與法國詩派接觸，使他的詩又帶上了唯美主義和象征主義色彩。葉芝在1923年獲得諾貝爾文學獎，是一位對現代詩歌具有重大影響的詩人。
葉芝在1889年遇見女演員Maud Gonne, 並愛上了她。葉芝曾多次向Maud Gonne求婚，均遭Maud Gonne拒絕，但葉芝終生愛慕著她，為她寫下了許多詩，《當你老了》就是其中一首。（摘自網絡） 林貝卡 2009 秋 於美國 |
