七月隨筆

迄七月六日，室中所積二十餘年書法墨跡整刪完畢。

存十箱，棄十箱。其中用時最多者乃審錄讀書劄記，及隨筆殘箋。

七日始檢點舊畫。書多畫少，約需兩周可畢。

自歎昔日精力茂盛，每則於勞務紛紜之暇，隨感隨作。蓋人於世事忙碌之中往往有物填胸，便欲直吐霜毫為快耳！倘終日閑懶，必言之無物，難發筆興，為作而作爾。

By July 6th, I had finished sorting through over twenty years’ worth of accumulated calligraphy and ink manuscripts.

Ten boxes kept, ten boxes discarded. The most time-consuming task was reviewing reading notes and fragmented jottings.

On the 7th, I began organizing old paintings—fewer in number than writings—a task that should take about two weeks to complete.

I sigh at the vigor of my younger self, who, amid countless duties, could still seize passing inspirations and set them down in ink.

Indeed, when the world keeps one busy, thoughts crowd the heart and demand release through the brush!

But in idleness, words lose substance; forced creation becomes mere motion without soul.
