For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. Psalm 139:13
In Chinese the verse says “build,” but the English verse uses the word “knit.” This in Chinese is “biānzhī.”
God created people in his own image. He is the creator, so we also create things.
One of my favorite things to do is making things. I really like knitting and crocheting.
When I was 6 years old, my grandma taught me how to crochet.
When I was a bit older, my mom taught me to knit.
Knitting and crochet are a lot alike, but with some differences. Look, this crocheted, and that is knitted.
To crochet, you use one crochet hook, but for knitting you use two knitting needles.
Crochet hooks and knitting needles can be made out of metal, plastic, or wood.
I have some that are made out of bamboo. They come in many sizes.
Different sized crochet hooks are labeled with letters. Knitting needles have numbers.
You can knit or crochet with any type of string.
Most people use cotton, wool, or acrylic yarn. It comes in different textures, thicknesses, and colors.
To make a doily or lace, you use thin thread and a small hook.
To make a warm sweater, you use thick yarn and a big hook or needles.
You can even crochet with strips of plastic shopping bags!
Knitting works on a whole row at one time. The basic stitches are knit and purl.
You can alternate them between stitches or rows to form different textures and patterns.
Crochet has more basic stitches, and only works on one stitch at a time, so is more flexible and has very many possibilities.
Every crochet project starts with chain stitch, and most use single crochet or double crochet.
There is also treble crochet, slip stitch, half-double crochet, and other variations.
Different combinations of these stitches make up a really large variety of patterns.
A lot of people like to follow written patterns. Sometimes I do too, but often I like to invent my own pattern.
You can make almost anything with knitting or crocheting.
When people think of knitting or crochet, they usually think of hats, scarves, sweaters, mittens, also socks.
You can also make purses, stuffed toys, or jewelry, or just about anything else you can imagine!
Blankets are also a common project, but are very big and take a long time to finish.
This is a blanket I am crocheting.
My friends are getting married in May, and I'm giving them this blanket as a wedding present.
These are also some hats and scarves I made. If anyone wants to buy a hat or scarf, I sell them.
Also, if anyone wants to learn to knit or crochet, I will teach you.
Do you have any questions?
Thanks, goodbye!

Hello, Today is Monday, april 12th. My name is Alex and im giving my oral presentation for Chinese. Ive always been very interested in Chinese history and as a result I stand here now. The language is difficult to learn, but fun to speak.
As for life outside this class im pretty much all about sports, video games, and friends. If im not playing call of duty with the guys, vollyball in the sun, or relaxin with the ladies, I JUST might be studying. Maybe. Im a sopmore marketing major who can rarely find a reason to try in class. Although my grades are important to me ive come to understand there are more important things in life.
In high school I played soccer and helped lead my team to their first division championship in over 14 years. I also ran track, doing very well all season, but not making it past states. My biggest hope in life is to fall madly in love and get married and live happily ever after.
My friends think of me as a bit of a hopeless romantic and in high school I earned the nickname romeo. I trust God to move in all aspects of my life and know that “I can do everything through him who gives me strength.” Thank you for your time, are there any questions?
