Very thorough and insightful.

Some random thoughts here:
1. A very good center who can impact both ends greatly. Personally, I think he has room to grow and will sustain a lot longer. His main problem is mentally, how to adjust to the game, read the game, read the refs, and read his teammates and media. NBA is a business, so you need business-oriented mind to help you achieve your sport goal. Only working hard is not good enough, he needs to work smart. Lacking of athleticism limited his play, but it also prolongs his career. You won't lose size and skills over the years, even flat footed, he still has his presence and shooting.
2. Scola - I love his energy and hardnosed play, and his crafty moves around the basket, but he still needs more time to be able to start. Because he's still a huge defensive liability, he's even a lot worse in PnR situation. Offensively, he's wayyyyy better than Hayes, but he folded last night. Once they didn't punish Sixers for hard doubling Yao with his jumper, Hayes' defense was painfully missing in the last few possessions. Look at those easy layups and second chance opportunities.
3. Guards - Rafer is certainly a servicable PG, but not for 40 minutes. A healthy Sam Cassell type of PG would bring the team far far and very far. Mind-toughness, composure in critical moments, mid-range game, those are the key components all great PGs have, NONE of Rockets crowded guard rotation possesses any of those qualities. Size does matter, Rafer and Head and AB are all too short. But I see great potential in AB because of his speed and aggresiveness. Head is just too one-dimentional, if his shots are not falling in a great percentage, he's too much of a liability in every single aspect of a basketball player. On top of that, he's too worried about his stats like turnovers and fouls, which would limit his play time. He would rather pass the chance for an entry pass over and over again, just to avoid a turnover under his name. He would avoid to foul even in critical closing minutes. He can only be used for 15 minutes of spot-up shooting. This is a perimeter league now, when your SG can't make a play for himself, can't pass, can't play any defense, you are bound to fail.
4. T-Mac, he has to get his acts together, change his approach to the game and team, otherwise he has to go. If he wants to, he can play great defense. I still remember all those Toronto-Orlando games, when he and VC got on one on one. But freeing him up from the toughest job in defense - covering the opposing best scorer, by Shane Battier has not paid off in offensive outputs. His heat check kills any momentum and moral of the team, and his lacking of aggressiveness make the whole team offense staggering.
5. Bonzi - He's a great rebounder and cutter, but he always tries to do too much. His shots are just terrible, and his lacking of defensive discipline is just beyond terrible. In my opinion, he could be an offensive spark from the bench, but can't relied in any key moments.
6. Adelman - He has different philosophy in coaching, the exact opposite of JVG's micro-management. JVG is more suitable for Yao, but Adelman should be more suitable for TMac in theory. However, in RA's system, there is no SF acting as playmaker. Ideally, everyone should be some sort of playmaker, if situation arises. PG should be the ball-handler, TMac should play more off the ball. TMac, as great a talent he is, sometimes are just too lazy to change his playing style.+
This team can be a lot better with current mix, but underperforming is on everyone, including Yao Ming. I don't have a quick solution for it, but one can still hope.
