Nova Scotia and PEI (4) - Cape Breton Highlands National Park

(2015-07-12 13:04:10) 下一個

Today was a long day. Not only did we drive to Cape Breton Highlands National Park, we did the Cabot Trail, and hiked the Skyline Trail all in one day (because the weather forecast for tomorrow was bad, we did 2 days' activities in one day).

1. Cabot Trail is a 298 km (185 mi) scenic roadway in Cape Breton Island. Yes it is beautiful, but comparing to the Icefields Parkway of the Canadian Rockies, it is nothing.

2. But Skyline Trail in Cape Breton Highlands National Park is one of the best trails we have hiked. It is easy, 10 km (6.2 mi) and mostly flat, offers breathtaking views, and we saw 7 moose up close during the hike!

9. The first of 7 moose we saw on the hike.

10. The second moose encounter on the hike. It was a mother with two bigger babies. This was one of the babies.

11. The mother was calming the baby.

12. The mother and one of the babies. They eventually moved to the right side of the trail, and got themselves busy eating.

13. The third and last moose encounter on the hike. It was a mother with two newborns eating on the side of the road close to the trail head parking lot.

14. A roadside takeout hut near Bay St. Lawrence, Cape Breton Island.

15. Delicious lobster roll ($16 CAD cash).

16. A church nearby.

17. We didn't have time to drive all the way to Meat Cove. After seeing this which is near Capstick, we turned around.

18. Near Cape North, Cape Breton Island.

(To be continued)
