France, Belgium and Netherlands (2) - More Paris Photos

Since we have visited most of the major sites in Paris last time, we decided to look around places we have missed, like the Bastille area, this morning.

1. Walking towards Place des Vosges, the oldest planned square in Paris. It was built by Henri IV from 1605 to 1612.

While walking towards Gare de Lyon, we kind of witnessed a robbery in action. It happened about 30 yards behind us. A group of three teenagers walked past this middle aged woman who was taking pictures with her iPad. One of the teenager grabbed her iPad and started to run towards us. The woman yelled something in French maybe, and a nearby old guy came to her rescue. By the time she yelled in English: "he stole my iPad", we turned around, and saw the old guy already confronted the thief, and the teenager returned the iPad to the woman. His two friends didn't seem to be happy with his action either. They were yelling at each other afterwards. All this happened in broad daylight (11:00 am), in a good area of Paris, with people constantly walking by. I don't know what that teenager was thinking.

9. Near Quai de la Gare metro station, we had a nice Paris–Brest, a pastry we first had in Tour, France, two years ago, and loved since.


Later in the afternoon, Dave and I went to the office to attend the award ceremony and the dinner cruise on the Seine afterwards.

10. A smaller version of the Statue of Liberty, one-fourth the height of the original, was given by the American community in Paris to that city, and inaugurated on July 4, 1889.
