Spain (5) - Alhambra

(2011-05-13 18:48:00) 下一個
There is no doubt that the most famous attraction in Granada is the Alhambra, a palace and fortress complex constructed during the mid 14th century by the Moorish rulers. Alhambra has three ticketed areas: Generalife (the recreation area of the Kings of Granada), Nasrid Palaces, and Alcazaba (the military area of the complex). Access to the Nasrid Palaces is restricted to 350 people every 30 minutes, so make sure you enter Nasrid Palaces at the exact time your ticket says.

1. Map of Alhambra. The big long green area on the right is Generalife. The small red area in the middle (next to the yellow square) is Nasrid Palaces. The red fortress on the left is Alcazaba.

Since our tickets to Nasrid Palaces was at 2:00 pm, and the guy at the main entrance (next to Generalife, a long walk to Nasrid Palaces) wouldn't let us in until 2:00 pm, we asked the girl at the information desk who could speak English what to do. She told us to walk along the Alhambra wall to Gate of Justice (close to the yellow square), and enter Alhambra grounds through there.

2. Charles V's Fountain. Behind the wall is Gate of Justice.

3. Palace of Charles V (the yellow square on the map).

Nasrid Palaces are so incredible that no word can describe. Even carving wood in that kind of detail is incredible, let alone carving sandstone.

After that we went to Alcazaba before walking all the way down to Generalife.
