感覺普通話的語調把英語的主要語調都包括了。普通話的一聲對應於英語的平(升)調（level-risingtone）;普通話的二聲對應於英語的升調（risingtone）;普通話的三聲對應於英語的降升調（fall-risingtone）;普通話的四聲，讀快了，就對應於英語的降調（fallingtone）；普通話的四聲，讀慢了，就可以對應於英語的升降調（rise-fallingtone）。英語語調主要的就是這五種：

從三個方麵看語調(intonation)：一個是停頓（pause）；一個是強調音節（emphasis）；最後是語調（tone/intonation: 升，降，降升，升降，平調，等等）。 同樣單詞組成的一個句子，讀的時候如果停頓點不同，停頓長短不同，其意思，或者其傳達的信息，就可能不同。
