You hate lab work so much that you are willing to belittle the whole profession and anyone who is doing it. You want to be a dentist, and I really wish your dream come true! It is high time for you to step aside and make room for people who can see the value of basic research, and people who can do their job with motivation. Eliminating people like you helps to reduce waste and elevate research quality in any institute, whether it is in the US or Canada.
BTW, if your definition of success is: "光有錢還不夠,要做人上人", remember not everyone look at life this way.
2nd BTW, if I need to choose a dentist for my family, I will probably pick someone like luke3841, who works hard and respects other professions.

A very touching story! And I think you just discover your talent and your mission in life: a screen writer. 寫部電影. Or write a book about people like you and publish in China. I think Fang Xiao Gang may be interested in your film. Good luck! Do something you like and make a living from it.
Not to mention that, yes, if you are a chinese doc or dentist, you don't have to pay lots money $$$$ to go through the medical school or dental school. All you guys doing are just study for the USMLE or Dental Board Part I and II and then pass the exam. However, i think that educational background still matters if you are originally US trained. So, i don't think 50 years olds should compain too much about spending time because they don't have to pay all that 300000 tuition. So, suck it up! As far as chinese engineers, gosh, yes, they are tons of them and almost every single chinese friends i know are in this field, and i think it is boring. But, the author is right, you have to strive for a life before you can enjoy life.

i am a dentist and just graduated. I think it is not easy to do the medical field in the US but you can do it if you work hard enough. I think i am starting to work hard for myself and will spend more time trying to specialize. Well, i think it is worth it.
Whatever you said is not true! I hardy find someone who stays in the same job for longer than 5 year before they reach 50 years of age. I got out of graduate school in 1984 and have been working for over 23 years. I change job in average of every three years. The longer job I had was 4 years. Only about 20% of my Chinese friends are in the field of computer. The others are in wide range of different careers, some of them are in finance doing portfolio management, and some are medical doctors, lawyers, some are in the aviation.
It is true that certain amount of Chinese majored computer in school. A lot of them, however, switch career after two or three years working in the computer industry. Schooling and the first few years of working experiences are just preparations for career change. Those who stay in the same job for years and not able to switch, in my opinion, they are losers.

Are you in USA or in CANADA? You were jumping all the time.
it is true. there are a lot of over 40 years old chinese post-dogs in science and medical institutions. they don't have any future and work as low-paid labors. They are struggling for green cards. it is too difficult to Become a Medical Physicans.

title is misleading, you should say: miserable life for Chinese students or scholars majoring in biomedical sciences.
Life is pretty good for many other specialties.
