雪降得快，夜降得快，噢，很快，

降在我看著的、正走過的野外，

而地麵幾乎被雪填平覆蓋，

隻有些野草和殘枝最後還在搖擺。

環繞的林木擁有它—它們是它的歸屬。

所有的動物都被堵隔在它們的洞穴。

我太缺乏精力，以致我無法細數；

這孤獨包括了我，竟沒被察覺。

且孤獨的，它仿佛是那種孤獨呀

在它變少之前，它一定先要增加

那夜幕下的雪披著空洞的蒼白

沒有表情，沒有什麽東西需要表達。

用星與星之間的空曠的空間，他們

嚇不著我，—人類不會在星星上生活。

在我心深處我擁有它，離家如此更近

我自己的荒野使我自己驚慌失措。

A blanker whiteness of benighted snow

With no expression, nothing to express.
They cannot scare me with their empty spaces

白茫茫夜幕下的雪野呀

哪裏我可以聽見一點點聲音哪怕隻有一點點？
They cannot scare me with their empty spaces Between stars--on stars where no human race is. I have it in me so much nearer home To scare myself with my own desert places.
不必再用那遙遠廣袤宇宙
那星於星之間杳無人煙的荒漠空間來嚇我
其實那就在我的家園在我的自心裏
我早已驚懼地陷入了一個巨大的落寞空間
舉步唯艱
