《省試湘靈鼓瑟》

善鼓雲和瑟， Good at making music on Yunhe zither，
常聞帝子靈。 The Xiang River spirit is often said to be。
馮夷空自舞， Hearing it Ping Yi cannot but do a dance，
楚客不堪聽。 From it the traveler from Chu has to flee。
苦調淒金石， Hard rock sheds tear at its grief-laden tune，
清音入杳冥。 Its crystal clear notes have infinite reach。
蒼梧來怨慕， Shun hears it and he feels a bitter yearning，
白芷動芳馨。 Angelica hears it and its scent turns so very sweet。
流水傳瀟浦， It flows with water to every corner of Xiaoxiang，
悲風過洞庭。 It flies past Dongting in saddened breeze。
曲終人不見， The music ends yet the musician never shows，
江上數峰青。 Above the river a few green peaks one can only see。
常常聽說湘水的神靈，善於彈奏雲和之瑟。
美妙的樂曲使得河神馮夷聞之起舞，而遠遊的旅人卻不忍卒聽。
那深沉哀怨的曲調，連堅硬的金石都為之感動、悲傷；那清亮高亢的樂音，穿透力是那樣強勁，一直飛向那高遠無垠的地方。
當如此美妙的樂曲傳到蒼梧之野時，連安息在九嶷山上的舜帝之靈也為之感動，生出抱怨思慕之情；而生長在蒼梧一帶的白芷，在樂曲的感召之下，也吐出了更多的芬芳。
樂聲順著流水傳遍瀟湘，化作悲風飛過了浩渺的洞庭湖。
曲終聲寂，卻沒有看見鼓瑟的湘水女神，江上煙氣消散，露出幾座山峰，山色蒼翠迷人。
